Should I accept to work for free?
1/ The worst non-sense I sometimes hear is:
“Don’t devaluate yourself working for free”.
2/ When I was a beginner I had the luck of meeting this old composer that told me:
3/ “I was saying no before and it lead me to nowhere. Now I always say YES and everyone wants me!”
4/ “Always say yes” is a very good pay back attitude.
If you have too much work, you can share it with a friend.
5/ My experience is you never what will turn out profitable and what won’t.
6/ Some loser today may be a star tomorrow.
Same goes with production companies.
7/ Therefore, working for free today might make you very rich later
8/ Of course, it should be an honest deal.
If there is a lot of money going around, you shouldn’t be underpaid.
9/ But working for small budget productions today is very often a better deal for well paid projects if you think ten years ahead.
10/ If it’s too much work, learn to go faster!
